To minimize risk to people and assets and avoid the loss of revenue from shutdowns an innovative solution has been developed to inspect flare stacks using UAS (drones). The unique ability to quickly deploy high-resolution cameras at the heights of flare stacks to obtain high-quality data for inspection has made drones a necessary tool to boost preventive maintenance of assets and avoid costly shutdowns. The details obtained with the ZainTECH's inspection solution are even better than what typical inspection using cranes, cherry pickers or rope access would provide. The sensors with a 100-megapixel plus resolution can identify cm-level cracks on the pilots' burners and even provide a detailed view of small pitting forming in the atomizers on steam-assisted flares (EBSM).

While using similar technology for elevated flare stacks, the inspection methods are slightly different when it comes to ground-based flare systems. Our inspections of ground flare systems focus on identifying issues with concrete support structures such as cracks, deformations, and support failures which can cause parts of the flare structure to collapse. In addition to visual checks and overall condition monitoring, thermal scans are done to help identify potential issues with the pilot burner and back pressures on the pilot burner feed. ZainTECH's reporting involves the creation of a realistic model of the entire ground flare system in combination with the drawings of design and inspection images. All findings are marked and projected on the digital twin of the asset and marked on the drawings provided by the customer. The findings are verified by certified combustion engineers before submitting them to the client.
